A company or foundation that matches gifts can often double or triple contributions to the Montclair Public Library Foundation. Contact your personnel office for details and/or look up your company here.

You may use your existing Donor Advised Fund to make contributions to the Montclair Public Library Foundation.

Gifts of securities such as stocks or other appreciated assets can be a great tax-efficient method for making a gift to the Montclair Public Library Foundation. In most instances, you can take a tax deduction for the full market value of the gift and avoid any capital gains tax.

If your stock is held with a broker, please notify the broker that you wish to make a gift of securities to the Montclair Public Library Foundation. Your broker will require written authorization from you before they can make the transfer. In the letter of authorization to your broker please include the name of the stock that you wish to transfer and the number of shares.

You may prefer to spread out payments on your gift for up to five years, allowing you to contribute more than you believed possible and provide longer term support to your beloved library. A gift in your will is an excellent way to ensure a legacy for future generations of Montclair library users. A single sentence is all it takes to leave a charitable gift:  “I give to the Montclair Public Library Foundation, a nonprofit organization currently located at 50 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042, or its successor thereto, ______________ [percentage of the estate or designated amount] for its unrestricted use and purpose.”

Alternatively, you could name the Montclair Public Library Foundation as a beneficiary on a retirement account, life insurance policy, or other asset. If you are 70½ years old or older, you can give any amount (up to a maximum of $100,000) per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as the Montclair Public Library Foundation without having to pay income taxes on the money. Gifts of any value $100,000 or less are eligible for this benefit and you can feel good knowing that you are making a difference at MPLF. This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short.

Ask your IRA administrator about making a direct transfer to MPLF by having the administrator send a check from your account to us. To be tax-free, the donation must be made payable to the  Montclair Public Library Foundation. For a sample request letter, click here.
